December - Trip to Denmark and Germany, part 2

Christmas Trip - Germany

After 5 days in Denmark, we rented a car and drove to Germany, where we spent 4 days in Schwerin, Mecklenburg, in eastern Germany. It's a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by forests and hundreds of lakes. Schwerin itself is a small but picturesque town with wonderful architecture. The landmark of the city is the Schwerin Castle, located on an island in the lake of Schweriner Sea. It was for centuries the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and today is the seat of the state parliament. More pictures of Schwerin below:

We found our dream fixer-upper while walking beyond the palace.

We took some day trips to a rebuilt dark ages village (more info to come), Güstrow, Wismar, and Berlin.

Güstrow

Wismar is a medieval town on the Baltic Coast of northern Germany.

We just did a quick trip into Berlin, hit the main square and decided, since it was cold and the kids were having a bad day, to do a 2 hour tour bus to all the main sights. I've never done one of those before, but I have to say it was the best choice for the circumstances.
